Waterside Wildlife

Introducing our popular Gorge Trip with The Bristol's naturalist and wildlife expert
Ed Drewitt you can explore the Avon Gorge on this fascinating cruise.

Have you ever wondered about what wildlife lives in the Avon Gorge?

Why not join us on the tidal river with Ed Drewitt, naturalist and broadcaster for the BBC as your commentator. It's the perfect way to spot wildlife, surrounded by the green trees of Leigh Woods and the impressive landscape of the Gorge.

Throughout the year, our wildlife trips provide a chance to see the world's fastest bird of prey, the Peregrine Falcon, which breeds in the Avon Gorge.

We'll look out for feral goats in the gully, sleeping foxes on the riverbank and small wading birds such as Redshanks, Lapwings and Common Sandpipers scurrying across the mud. There's often the odd Greenshank as well. Towards Avonmouth we usually spot Shelducks and Oystercatchers.

Travelling by boat is also ideal for spotting Grey Herons, ducks to gulls and goats to songbirds - there's plenty to see, hear and enjoy along the gorge.

The rocks and cliffs tell a story of the past, from deep seas to sandy deserts and today there are rare plants which can only be found growing in The Avon Gorge.
