Black History Month

Join us this October for our second running of events for Black History Month!

 

After a successful series of sold out events last year, we return with another exciting series celebrating Black History Month 2019. 
 

  • Every Wednesday, we will be offering different workshops and talks, departing from the City Centre by Cascade Steps at 18:30.
  • Tickets are only £8 for adults and £5 for children, concessions, or those on lower incomes who wish to participate!
  • There will be a cash-only bar on board and it is advised to bring warm clothes in preparation for any weather!


OCTOBER 3rd ~ SING AND SAIL

Cecilia Ndhlovu will be sharing with us the stories, history and culture behind Zimbabwean folk songs, and we will all be singing and sailing our way around the harbourside - do not miss this moonlit harmony raising note float!! 

OCTOBER 10th ~ SPOKEN WORD SAIL

For our second event we will be celebrating spoken word with Bristol Poet Laureate Vanessa Kissule.

OCTOBER 17th ~ CARRIBEAN SONG WITH THE TAN TEDDY

Come with us to sail and sing our way around the harbourside with Tan Teddy Jamaican Folk Culture Group, who are a Bristol based collective dedicated to celebrating and sharing Jamaican culture through song. 

We'll have an interval halfway through and sing throughout this fantastic event!


OCTOBER 24th ~ AFRICAN FOLKLORE

We are honoured to be setting sail with African Storyteller Odiri Ighamre, a dedicated community development artist and author who has led an amazing variety of projects in the UK and all over Africa. 
Weaving folklore with necessary world truths, she uses storytelling to connect us to each other; to understand our past and inspire us to be hopeful in creating the future we want to see.

Come with us on this journey in the presence of the magic and medicine of storytelling! Her book Arcadia, an environmental sale will be on sale at the event. 


OCTOBER 31st ~ DAY OF THE DEAD

An exciting Hallowe'en special to celebrate the end of our 2019 events, more details TBC...
