the Bristol Ferry boats are broadening our horizons!
The Bristol Ferry are pleased to be able to recruit volunteers to our thriving and community led company. We are lucky to have been awarded the National Lottery fund from Power to Change. This means we can cast our net far and wide to involve more people from this fine city to get more involved with the Bristol Ferries.

What can you do?
There are many different ways you can support us through
Volunteering your time.
Supporting our Outreach Projects
Harbourside Unlocked is a new project supporting older people to get onboard and take in the culture on Bristol’s Harbour, get out and learn about the heritage on the docks.
As a volunteer you will be there to support people to get on and off the boat, serve tea and coffee and be a friendly face representing the Bristol Ferries.
Duration: First two Wednesdays each month. 3 hours.
Would suit: someone who is sensitive and patient, reliable, interest in local history and culture of the harbour, attentive to the needs of elders, good communication and English speaking and listening skills.
We would prefer someone who can commit to these sessions regularly to build up a good rapport with our groups.
Supporting our Education Projects
The Bristol Ferry delivers educational trips to schools and colleges across the city.
This role will involve working beside our Education team developing and creating materials for these trips, contacting schools, creating and sending newsletter out to schools.
Would suit: someone who is interested in History of Bristol Harbour, organised individual, able to cope with varied workload and some interest in local history and using Bristol Archives.
Duration: Flexible hours, 4 hours per week.
Monthly litter pick around the docks
The harbour has been the lifeblood of this city for generations and we are trying to ensure we take good care of our wonderful resource in the centre of our city.
Caring for our communities and wildlife that use the water.
Each month we launch a boat full of volunteers to fish out the litter which collects in the harbour.
Would suit: anybody!
Duration: 3 hours every month.
General Volunteering and Events
All year we take part in many varied events up and down the harbour. We need our Volunteers to support us at these events.
These roles vary but are very important to keeping us running day to day.
Helping us to conduct surveys for the above projects, supporting the ferries with our publicity, promoting our trips, services and events.
Maintenance of our boats, keeping the harbour clean and tidy, working in the ferry HQ supporting the office team and supporting the ferries at Harbour Festival, Bristol open doors and other city events.
Would suit: anybody!
Duration: flexible times and various roles.
