Brunel
The distinctive 'Brunel' roof on Brigantia

  • 1 hour Harbour tour with fun and interactive presentation focusing on Isambard Kingdom Brunel. 
  • Examining Brunel’s engineering feats in the city; ss.Great Britain, Temple Meads railway station and Clifton Suspension Bridge, and his impact in making Bristol docks the thriving harbour it is today.
  • Lots of questions to help get everyone on board thinking and involved.
  • Includes an illustrated harbour map to fill in during the tour or back in the class room along with work sheets.

School group answering questionsAbolition Afloat

  •  2008 marked the 200th anniversary of the Abolition of The Slave Trade.
  • In response we developed an educational workshop looking at Bristol’s involvement in the slave trade.
  • ‘Abolition Afloat’ is adapted to suit all ages with fun physical activities for the younger groups and lively debates for the older ones.
  • All students will see many sites from the water which are rich in the history and tales from the slave trade Excerpt from our 'Abolition Afloat' map. Copyright Rachael Daddthat will give them an insight into life and industry during this period. These tours include an illustrated map along with work sheets.
