built at the famous Thorneycroft yard in 1922 on Platts Eyot near Hampton Court on the River Thames. (They built large numbers of motor torpedo boats and launches for the Navy.)
-
believed to have been part of the fleet of passenger boats that helped evacuate the British Troops from the Normandy beaches in 1940s
-
the first records we have of a name for her is “Duke of Edinburgh”
-
purchased (to fill our need for an elegant river vessel to extend our trips up the River Avon to Beeses tea gardens and beyond) as “The Belle” from the Lincoln Boat Trip Company where she’d been running tours through the historic part of Lincoln.
-
with the Bristol Packet's “Tower Belle” already operating in the harbour she was renamed "Elizabeth" - even though some say it’s bad luck to rename a boat – Ferry Boat Company owner Jane’s mother is called Elizabeth and the relaunch ceremony also took place during the Queens Golden Jubilee Year.
